A wrenching conclusion to the second cycle, Adieux et Retrouvailles offers Fitz a peace he believed impossible: a home, a name, children. But the Fool's departure leaves a void that will never be filled — and which will justify, ten years later, the writing of a third cycle. Robin Hobb concludes here a fresco begun in 1995, without ever sacrificing complexity or emotion.
