Synopsis
Buckkeep is besieged from within. The king's illness worsens, Verity embarks on a desperate quest to the mythical lands of the Elderlings, and Regal tightens the gears of his scheming. Meanwhile, Fitz, aware of the conspirators, must choose between obeying orders or following his heart. When blood is spilled, it will be that of the innocent.

Verity sets sail in search of the legendary Elderlings, beings who came to the aid of the Six Duchies during a previous invasion. His quest is also his farewell — and his promise to Fitz. During his absence, Regal overturns the chessboard. The fortress becomes a prison; the faithful fall one by one; the bastard must take up arms himself. La Nef du Crépuscule is arguably the emotional peak of the cycle: a book that shatters in order to rebuild.
