Synopsis
In the depths, the serpent Maulkin leads a tangle of his kind northward, following a call he doesn't understand. In Bingtown, the Rain Wilds remind the Traders of their existence. And the Paragon, finally afloat, weighs anchor for the South.

For the first time, we follow the sea serpents in depth — intelligent creatures seeking a place to die, or rather, as we will learn, to be reborn. The maritime chapters alternate with those of Bingtown, where Malta transforms into a formidable young Trader.
