Synopsis

Captured by Kennit, the Vivacia bonds with the pirate. Wintrow discovers an unthinkable vocation. Althea seeks to redeem the Paragon, a mad liveship left to rot. And in Bingtown, the Traders realize their city is tipping over.

First third of The Mad Ship, this volume sets up the trilogy's central stake: the consciousness of the liveships. The Paragon, abandoned for decades, howls his loneliness. Althea attempts the impossible: to refloat this living dead to go searching for the Vivacia. Meanwhile, Malta Vestrit forcibly traverses her adolescence, and the court of Jamaillia draws closer.
